Research

I am interested in the cognitive underpinning of language processing, with particular curiosity in these questions: What cues enable us to infer our interlocutors’ intended meaning via the utterance they have produced, which is often not fully specified by the literal semantics or is corrupted by noise? Can the seeming complexity of language inform our understanding of language comprehension and production, indicating that language is a optimal code for communication? I am currently approaching the first question from the perspective of pronoun resolution using combinations of psycholinguistic experiments and probabilistic modeling.

I am also interested in bilingual language processing and the reciprocal effects of bilingualism and general cognition.
